Guciów – the most beautiful hole

This is how Stanisław Jachymek, a man who is in love with the place and because of its beauty has set up a real homestead here, refers to Guciów. It is believed to be one of the most charming villages in the Roztocze district, situated on the wild Wieprz River, amid old beech trees and sycamores, next to the Roztoczański National Park. According to scientists the place has the largest number of sunny days in Poland – over 100. For this reason Guciów abounds with fruit trees and the blossom of wild pear trees, apple tress and hawthorn bushes attract bees, which make excellent honey. In Guciów there is the thickest sycamore tree; it is over 6 m in circumference. Visitors are attracted by forest springs, ancient burial mounds and gaping ravines. After long walks, when visitors get hungry, they can have a meal in the homestead inn and taste pancakes, żur [soup made from fermented rye flour], kasha with lentil, jacket potatoes with garlic butter, a soup made from stinging nettles, fried boletus mushrooms and game dishes. Apart from having an excellent meal, visitors also have a chance to see a collection of minerals and fossils, which come from the area between the Bug River and the Vistula, in a simple village bedchamber. A wooden thatched cowshed houses a gallery of works of artists from the Roztocze region.
