The Zoological garden in Zamość is the only facility of the kind in this part of Poland. It was named after Stefan Miler, who established a school zoological garden by The Jan Zamoyski Male Secondary School in 1918. Till 1980, in spite of its constant development, the garden had been located in the Old Town, next to the Zamojska Academy. Presently the garden is located about 500 m from the Old Town, at 12 Szczebrzeska Street. It takes up 14 ha and hosts almost 1000 animals belonging to 180 species, including camels, bears, llamas, monkeys, crocodiles, eagles and vultures. The garden also has a botanical exhibition, where plants from different continents are on display.
