Information

The Rektorska Pharmacy is one of the oldest pharmacies in Poland. It was founded in 1609 by Szymon Piechowicz, a physician, professor and Rector of the Zamojska Academy.  In spite of many difficult moments the pharmacy has never stopped to sell medicines to residents, remaining at the same location on the ground floor of the Piechowicz Tenement House, in a corner of the Rynek. Successive owners made every effort to maintain its good reputation, which, in many cases, meant undertaking innovative activities. At the end of the 19th century the pharmacy ran Hygienic Station, i.e. one of the first laboratories which tested the quality of food and water. Visitors can learn more about the rich history of the Rektorska Pharmacy by visiting its Exhibition Room, which presents a few hundred exhibits, including a microscope from 1888, a rich collection of books and documents as well as oak, Biedermeier display cases and pharmacy cabinets. The opening hours of the Exhibition Room are the same as those of the pharmacy.
